Who We Are: Dublin
Paul Spain
I am a partner in the Dublin office of Sheppard Moscow and have been working as a consultant in organisational development for over nine years now.
I hold a masters degree in Management Practice from Trinity College Dublin, and prior to becoming a consultant, worked for over twenty years in a variety of roles and organisations in the manufacturing sector. My roles included production manager, HR manager, organisation change and development manager, and change consultant.
My work at Sheppard Moscow is across local and global organisations in sectors that include financial services, research & development, sales & distribution, manufacturing and public services. My role ranges from organisation design and facilitation of business issues, to leadership and team development, with helping clients develop robust, sustainable, skilful relationships always a core theme. My extensive experience as a line manager has given me a thorough appreciation of organisational life and the challenges of leadership, and one of my areas of specialty is the design and delivery of integrated leadership development programmes. I work with clients to ensure that personal development is firmly placed within the business context and that the issue of integration is at the heart of the learning. This requires that integration is understood at both the individual and organisational level, and that the programme is designed to deliver real growth for both the individual and the organisation.
Some of my recent assignments include:
- Building the organisation vision, mission, values, strategy and goals in a start up situation
- Consulting to a local sales and distribution organisation on the redesign of its structure and providing support to the strategy team on its strategic focus and effectiveness
- Coaching a newly appointed R&D director to develop his leadership
- Design and delivery of an integrated leadership development programme in a recently merged manufacturing organisation
I believe that organisations can be effective and efficient while at the same time being places of community, dignity and growth for the individual. It is this belief that provides the drive and energy for my work. My values and beliefs have been constant companions on my journey, sometimes providing a foundation in times of uncertainty and at other times providing vision and energy for the future.
I live in Ireland with my wife Maureen, our three adult children and two dogs. I have a passion for hill walking and the outdoors in general and I love a good book, a glass of red wine and good company - usually in that order!
