Who We Are: Dublin
Eamonn O'Dwyer
The twelve years I have spent with Sheppard Moscow have been the most interesting and rewarding of my professional life. I particularly appreciate the opportunities that consulting provides for both testing my theories of the world - of how organisations and people really work - and for being tested by new challenges and complexities.
I seek to add value in a number of essential ways:
- Helping people deepen their understanding of their current situation so that they value what they are doing well and think through what needs to change
- Developing behavioural skills so that people know how to change
- Facilitating engagement between people so that they have the kinds of conversations that are needed to bring about change
My work is varied, across market sectors and with both local and global companies. I coach individuals, design and facilitate business meetings, team building sessions and learning events, and provide consultancy support to whole organisation change programmes. Recent projects have included:
- Facilitating joint management-union partnership initiatives to address and resolve complex organisational change issues.
- Providing individual coaching and team development for directors and senior managers, focusing on organisational change strategies as well as personal effectiveness.
- Helping managers adopt a coaching and facilitating style in order to develop and empower staff in a team working environment.
- Providing on-going consultancy support to the management group of an organisation as they introduce self-directed teams onto the manufacturing floor.
- Designing and facilitating large group processes, stakeholder conferences and future search meetings to break down barriers, find common ground and mobilise whole systems change.
- Training both internal and external consultants in facilitation and consulting skills.
I believe passionately that the most successful businesses in the long term are those that are organised and led so as to create dignity, meaning and community in the workplace as well as shareholder value. My personal style is characterised by curiosity, courage in telling the truth as I see it and a strong commitment to making a positive difference. Over the years I have learned to temper my drive and tenacity with greater patience and compassion for myself and others.
Before joining Sheppard Moscow I worked in the theatre, in teaching and in journalism and then went on to run a range of educational and development programmes with the Eastern Health Board, the Irish Prison Service, the Health Education Bureau, the National College of Industrial Relations and Dublin City University.
I live outside Dublin by the sea with my wife and three children. I swim regularly, play tennis and I enjoy cooking and hanging out with family and friends. I have practised Tai Chi for several years and recently completed my training and qualified as a teacher.
I am an honours Psychology graduate of Trinity College Dublin and hold a Masters in Organisational Psychology from the London University.
