Understanding Leadership in London
On Monday 21st May, Sheppard Moscow's London Office played host to 'Understanding Leadership' - a Sheppard Moscow London event highlighting the latest thinking and research on Leadership.
The half day event started at 8.30 am with a breakfast reception before a presentation by Mr. Mike Haffenden, Director of the Corporate Research Forum (CRF), who gave an overview of CRF's recent research in the leadership space. This included recent insights from the likes of Dr. Henry Mintzberg and Dr Jonathan Gosling.
This was followed by an introduction to Sheppard Moscow's stance on Leadership by Sheppard Moscow Consultant's Marian Fryer and Eamonn Murphy. The presentation also showed the wide breadth of work Sheppard Moscow has carried out in the leadership space and the vital importance in all cases of 'context'. Mike Haffenden commented that, in comparison with many approaches to leadership - for example, a competency-based approach, the Sheppard Moscow stance is rigorously thought-through and based on first principles.
The audience then divided into three groups to discuss their own views and the particular leadership challenges within their organisations, before meeting once again for an open discussion on the points discussed and the issues raised.
The participants were made up of both HR professionals and business leaders who were taking the chance to reflect on their own leadership practice.
Attendees valued this opportunity to reflect and to have their own Leadership issues questioned and challenged. It all contributed to a thought- provoking morning and a rare opportunity to take time for reflecting on our practice.
Sheppard Moscow's consultants were delighted with the response at the event, with important insights gained and openly discussed, and which will continue to help refine the Sheppard Moscow approach to leadership.
Following the success of the day, Sheppard Moscow hopes to hold other similar events in London and at Sheppard Moscow's Edinburgh, Dublin and Singapore offices.
